Canadian federal open-government licence. Permissive attribution, modeled on OGL-UK 3.0, drafted for compatibility with CC BY 4.0.

The Open Government Licence — Canada (OGL-Canada) is the licence under which Government of Canada-held information published through open.canada.ca is made available. Version 2.0 (2013) is a permissive attribution-only licence drafted to be compatible with the international Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence and with the Open Data Commons Attribution Licence.

OGL-Canada replaced the older GeoBase and GeoGratis licences (and their cluster of sub-licences known collectively as the 'Canada family') as the canonical federal open-data licence. The drafting was intentionally modeled on the UK Open Government Licence 3.0, with adaptations for Canadian Crown copyright law and bilingual French/English publication.

OGL-Canada is the licence governing most federal datasets on open.canada.ca, including the geospatial datasets that previously lived under the GeoBase / GeoGratis family. Provincial and municipal Canadian open-data programmes have generally adopted OGL-Canada or compatible permissive licences.
